It’s hard to deny yourself of a true Italian, slightly charred, wood fire roasted pizza. But when it comes to gluten intolerance or diet restrictions, those Italian pizza cravings just HAD to vanish. Malafemmena will bring those pizza desires right back, with their revolutionary gluten free pizza menu, offering delicious Italian style pizza to all.

Malafemmena opened around 3 years ago in the Berlin district of Schöneberg. Firstly, being run by an eccentric born and bred Italian man, Emmanuele Cirillo (specifically born in Napoli), you know you are getting first hand Italian tradition. It’s hard to replicate Italian recipes when you are simply not Italian. Cirillo certainly doesn’t do it alone. In fact, his team of exceptional pizza makers and bakers really pushes their product from good to fantastic. Everything is handmade, including the bread served along side enters, pizza dough and accompanying sauces. Not only are their pizzas loved by all the locals, but they have won awards, including the Top 10 Italian restaurants in Berlin by Gambero Rosso. I told you they are good…

Really, the reason for this article is not to rant and rave about their traditional Italian pizzas that has been clearly noted by all, but to share their newly launched gluten free pizza menu that shares the best of the Italian cuisine with those with gluten intolerance (or maybe dislike to gluten as well). You may seem initially quite sceptical (as was I) - a change to a form so particular, globally recognised but never really swaying from it’s own Italian customers seems pointless, almost the thought feels unappealing. Hold up on that thought. The team at Malafemmena has put in hard work, months of trial and error, but come out the other side to offer what looks pretty much identical to a traditional Italian pizza.

Give it a try. The texture was the only element to be noted as slightly different from that which we all are used to. The taste, appearance and smell would give any pizza addict a real knock to such cravings. Currently, they offer the gluten free menu fortnightly on a Wednesday but from February, this will increase to every Wednesday. So, get your girlfriends together, or the boys for a dude’s dinner or even the extended family not excluding those gluten free friends for an enjoyable pizza party where you have the exclusive opportunity to try their truely remarkable modern twist on the Italian classic.
